We have 13 trained Young Advisors supported by a lead worker and two support workers, recruited from young advisors.
A Partnership oversees the Project whose members are: Hull City Councils Children & Young People’s Services, Hull Youth Council, Child Dynamix, DOC (Developing Our Communities) and KIDS Independent Voice Scheme.
That Partnership has now developed into an independently constituted group which is a further step towards the Projects independence and opens up more opportunities to funding not previously available. All decisions have to be validated by Young Advisors at their fortnightly meetings.
Young people have undergone ASDAN accredited training to become Young Advisors covering:
Young Advisors can:
Youth proof policies, strategies and other documents
Provide advice, information and guidance to young people and adults.
Consult with young people and then feedback into the decision making processes.
Try and help break down the barriers between young people and adults.
Change current views of young people and act as Young Peoples Champions.
Work with the Local Authority and other key agencies in engaging young people to help them be involved in improving their own neighbourhood and community life.
Help adults and professionals in attracting and maintaining the interest of young people in planning and reviewing community affairs.
Be Advocates for young people.
Presentation Skills, Team Work, Youth Proofing , Action Walks, Reflective Learning. Other learning undertaking includes - Participatory Action Research, ASDAN Short Course Training, Marketing and Promotion , Training the Trainer (to be undertaken 6th November)
Young Advisors have undertaken a wide range of commissioned work including:
Playbuild Consultations, MyPlace Consultations and members of the Board and working groups, Grant Funding Panels – Assessing funding applications, Interview Panels, Spotlight Awards Panel, NHS Membership Scheme – Recruiting members , Children and Young People’s Plan – Supporting children & young people friendly posters, Monitoring & Evaluation, Research Project Looking at the Effects on Young People Excluded from Mainstream Education.
