The project aims to work with Gypsy / Travellers in the East Riding of Yorkshire and engages with those living on permanent and transient sites, those living highly mobile (off the roadside or on private land) and house dwelling Gypsy / Travellers. The project also supports and empowers the Gypsy / Traveller community in campaigning for lasting change; to improve their quality of life, and to educate / raise awareness with the wider community of the issues facing Gypsy / Travellers in the East Riding.

The project is now in it's fifth year and has over achieved on many of the outcomes and milestones as set by the funders. Many more people have participated in activities, workshops, family learning days and trips than expected. The project also advocates for families with other issues such as planning applications and attending appeal hearings to support families facing eviction.

The project has employed a Gypsy / Traveller ‘community apprentice’ development worker during the fourth year of the project. The apprentice has gained the trust of the community and established good working relationships with other East Riding workers. She has found the work very rewarding and feels that she has developed and learned from her work experience so far. The apprentice will continue working on the project during the fifth year and beyond funding permitting.
